Quantum Caring: Leadership - What does it mean?

'...leadership signifies the act of ?making a difference?.? Leadership at its best is when vision becomes strategic, the leader?s voice becomes persuasive, and the results become tangible (Slavkin 2010).

Real leaders inspire, commit, and create environments where excellence thrives.? Unfortunately all leadership positions are not filled by real leaders. Individuals advance to leadership positions not necessarily based on their leadership skill set.? Often times advancement happens secondary to longevity or a need to fill a void.? That being said, when individuals are placed in a leadership role and lack the requisite skill set, the consequences are far reaching!? Leaders must have the capacity for practical wisdom, they must have the capacity for self reflection and self improvement.?

We NEED leaders!? We need LEADERS in healthcare!? We need leaders in healthcare at the LOCAL level, at the UNIT level.? Do you have a TRUE leader at your local level?

Leaders make or break an employees work experience.? Most folks leave work because of their direct supervisor.? Are you a supervisor (an individual in a leadership position) that you would like to work for?

These are tough questions, but, if you chose a leadership position, you must ask yourself - ARE YOU ON THE RIGHT SEAT ON THE BUS?

Now, there are a handful of folks who have a natural ability for leadership - and then there is the rest of us!? We want to be leaders but we are not sure how to do it RIGHT.? Leadership can be learned if you are open to change, self reflection and self improvement.?

Leaders make a difference,? great leaders inspire action!
