Kansas City Crime Fighter Alonzo Washington Might Soon Break News On 'LP' Story!!!

A recent tweet from Alonzo Washington offers a preview that could provide insight into a controversial Kansas City abuse case . . .

"Right now I have a person connected to the LP case wanting me to do a big news conference 4 them . . ."

Remember that Mr. Washington's help was CRITICAL in the search for Precious Doe.

Sadly, he seems disillusioned with the media:

"Dealing with the press that I feel has been unfair 2 me as people come 2 me 2 help them reach the press."

Luckily, Mr. Washington always seems to make the decision in favor of helping locals in their fight struggle against crime . . . Watch his Twitter Account for more news on his adventures.

This photo released by the San Diego Sheriff's Department shows, Ethan Anderson, 8, whose mother, Christina Anderson, 44, was one of two people found dead in a house fire Sunday night. Late Friday evening, Aug. 9, 2013, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said its crime laboratory has identified the body of a child found in the rubble of the burned house as Ethan Anderson. A brief statement Friday night said that investigators identified the charred body through DNA extracted from the boy's bone marrow. The body was found Sunday along with the body of the boy's mother Christina Anderson, who investigators say was murdered. (AP Photo/San Diego Sheriff's Department ,File)

(AP) ? Almost from the moment he laid eyes on 16-year-old Hannah Anderson and her abductor, James Lee DiMaggio, former Idaho county sheriff Mark John was swept with the feeling that something just didn't seem right about the pair.

Initially it was the lack of openness on the trail, a reluctance to engage in the polite exchange of banter or adventures like so many other recreationists John has encountered during his various horseback excursions into Idaho's rugged backcountry.

Then John and his partners on horseback puzzled why Anderson and DiMaggio were hiking in the opposite direction of their stated destination, the Salmon River.

But more than anything, it was their gear, or lack of it. Neither was sporting hiking boots or rain gear. The 40-year-old DiMaggio, described as an avid hiker in his home state of California, was toting only a light pack. It even appeared Anderson was wearing pajama bottoms.

"They just didn't fit," said the 71-year-old John, who retired as Gem County sheriff in 1996. "He might have been an outdoorsman in California but he was not an outdoorsman in Idaho ... Red flags kind of went up."

At a news conference Sunday in Boise, John and his three riding mates shared details of their encounters with Anderson and DiMaggio and helped focus the massive manhunt and rescue effort on a southwest corner of wilderness in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, a 2.3 million acre roadless preserve in the heart of Idaho.

On Saturday, after searchers spotted the pair by air, two highly-specialized FBI hostage teams moved in on ground, ultimately rescuing Anderson and killing DiMaggio in a shootout at their encampment at a remote, alpine lake.

Anderson was immediately transported to an unidentified hospital. She was expected to be reunited with her father, Brett Anderson, earlier Sunday, but authorities did not disclose any details of their meeting.

DiMaggio is also suspected of killing Anderson's mother and brother at his home in Southern California.

On Sunday, FBI agents returned to process the scene at the camp at Morehead Lake, about 8 miles inside the wilderness border and 40 miles east of the central Idaho town of Cascade.

But authorities made clear Sunday that the rescue may have taken longer if not for the chance encounter with John and the other riders, who included John's wife Christa, 68; Mike Young, 62, and his wife, Mary Young, 61.

The four riders had a second encounter with Anderson and DiMaggio later Wednesday, this one at the lake as they were getting ready to head back down the trail. The Youngs and Johns recalled seeing Anderson soak her feet in the lake and again avoid interaction. Still, nothing about the behavior of Anderson or DiMaggio raised suspicion.

"If she was sending us signals that she was in trouble, we didn't key in on it," said Mary Young.

It wasn't until Thursday afternoon when the Johns returned home and saw the girl's photographs on the news that they made a connection. After confirming with the Youngs, Mark John immediately called Idaho State Police, setting off the investigation in Idaho.

On Friday, police found DiMaggio's car, hidden under brush at a trailhead on the border of the wilderness area. Details about the operation that ended in Hannah's rescue are being released slowly.

FBI spokesman Jason Pack said the rescue teams were dropped by helicopter about 2.5 hours away from where Anderson and DiMaggio were spotted by the lake. Pack said the team had to hike with up to 100-pounds of tactical gear along a rough trail characterized by steep switchbacks and treacherous footing.

The teams then surrounded the camp and waited until Anderson and DiMaggio were no longer near each other before moving in, and ultimately killing DiMaggio. Few other details about the shootout are being released pending an automatic investigation by FBI agents of everything that occurred before, during and after the shooting.

Valley County Coroner Nathan Hess said he hadn't yet received DiMaggio's body, but would be responsible for issuing a death certificate and determining whether an autopsy should be performed. Hess said he wasn't sure when his part in the investigation would begin.

The case began when the charred bodies of Hannah Anderson's mother, Christina Anderson, 44, and the teen's 8-year-old brother, Ethan Anderson, were found in DiMaggio's burning house outside San Diego, near the Mexico border.

DiMaggio was close to the family. Christina Anderson's husband, Brett Anderson, has described him as a best friend and said the children thought of him as an uncle.

Authorities have said DiMaggio had an "unusual infatuation" with Hannah, although the father said he never saw any strange behavior.

An Amber Alert was issued, and tips led investigators to Oregon after DiMaggio and the teen were reportedly spotted there.

Brett Anderson has not returned telephone messages left Sunday by The Associated Press. But he issued a statement to the media Saturday expressing relief his daughter is safe.

Hannah Darby, one of Hannah Anderson's closest friends, was elated by the news.

"I'm probably going to make a really big basket with all of her favorite things in it," she said. "It will have candy and things that are pink."

2 Turkish Airlines crew kidnapped in Lebanon

BEIRUT (AP) ? Gunmen on Friday ambushed a van carrying a Turkish Airlines crew in the Lebanese capital and kidnapped two of its members, a pilot and a co-pilot, security officials said.

According to the officials, six gunmen ambushed the vehicle on an old airport road in Beirut, snatched the two men, both Turkish nationals, and let the rest continue on.

The van was travelling between the Rafik Hariri International Airport to a hotel in Beirut when the ambush took place early on Friday, said the Lebanese officials, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

Although there was no claim of responsibility for the ambush or a demand for ransom, the incident is likely related to the civil war in neighboring Syria, which has deeply divided the Lebanese. The Syrian rebels, who are backed by Turkey, have been holding nine Lebanese Shiites hostage since last year.

The Turkish crew had landed a Turkish Airlines plane with 144 passengers on board, the Lebanese officials told The Associated Press. The flight number 828 from Istanbul to Beirut landed at 3:30 a.m. (0030 GMT), they said.

Authorities were investigating and the road where the kidnapping occurred has been closed off with several police checkpoints, the officials added.

Lebanon's state National News Agency reported that the driver of the van was being questioned and that eight gunmen were involved in the abduction. The difference in the number of the attackers in the report and the Lebanese officials' account could not immediately be explained. The report said the Turkish crew had six members in all.

In Turkey, Foreign Ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu confirmed the kidnapping and said the rest of the crew was still in Beirut but expected to return to Turkey on Friday evening.

"We don't know who did this and for what purpose," Gumrukcu said, adding that the Turkish government was in close contact with Lebanese officials over the case.

Turkey supports the Sunni Muslim rebels fighting to topple the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, which is dominated by Alawites, an offshoot sect of Shiite Islam.

The Lebanese are deeply divided over Syria's civil war, with Shiites largely supporting the regime in Damascus and Sunnis backing the rebels. Both Sunni militants, and fighters from Lebanon's dominant Shiite Hezbollah group, have been fighting on opposite sides in the conflict.

The conflict in Syria that has claimed more than 100,000 lives since it erupted in March 2011. The fighting has frequently spilled into Lebanon.

Loophole lets NSA search US emails, phone calls without warrant, says Guardian

Technology

The National Security Agency can search Americans' email and phone calls without a warrant because of a rule change approved in 2011, according to a top-secret document given by NSA leaker Edward Snowden to the Guardian.

The newspaper's report comes on the heels of another recent disclosure about the NSA's reach into the digital lives of Americans, including a story by the New York Times that the agency's dragnet is much wider than was believed, and has been sifting through international email and text messages of Americans who mention information about foreign targets.?

The loophole allowing the NSA to do the warrantless searches for individual U.S. citizens, using their name or other identifying information, is allowed because of amendments made to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the Guardian says. FISA lets the NSA undertake digital hunts of foreign targets ? who aren't U.S. citizens and who are outside the U.S. ? without a warrant.?

The document shared by Snowden shows "this is the first evidence that the NSA has permission to search those databases for specific U.S. individuals' communications," the Guardian said.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee who has indicated for months that the NSA has access to more information than officials have admitted, told the newspaper that the change to Section 702 allows essentially a "backdoor search" of Americans' data.

"Section 702 was intended to give the government new authorities to collect the communications of individuals believed to be foreigners outside the U.S., but the intelligence community has been unable to tell Congress how many Americans have had their communications swept up in that collection," Wyden told the Guardian.

"Once Americans' communications are collected, a gap in the law that I call the 'back-door searches loophole' allows the government to potentially go through these communications and conduct warrantless searches for the phone calls or emails of law-abiding Americans."

Greg Nojeim, senior counsel and director of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Democracy and Technology Project on Freedom, Security and Technology, told NBC News that recent government "assurances that Americans needn't worry about NSA surveillance that targets people abroad ring hollow when the 'take' from that surveillance can be searched for the Americans' communications within."

"As it turns out, Americans are targets, too, just one step down the road," he said.?

Meanwhile, NSA Director Keith Alexander, speaking?Thursday at a cybersecurity conference, said the agency plans to eliminate about 90 percent of its system administrators to reduce the number of employees with access to secret information. Snowden, who was one of those administrators, faces criminal charges by the U.S., but has been granted temporary asylum by Russia.?

"No one has willfully or knowingly disobeyed the law or tried to invade your civil liberties or privacies," Alexander said at the conference in New York. "There were no mistakes like that at all."

'Monster Hunter 4' Looks To Continue The Franchise's Dominance, In Japan At Least

by Matt Hawkins

monsterhunter4

Capcom has just unveiled the latest trailer for "Monster Hunter 4." And it looks to be the greatest thing ever, at least to those into Monster Hunter. Unfortunately, the game is still only slated for Japan. Which is just as well, since that's apparently where all its fan are located.

The following demonstrates that, even for games that are on a tiny screen, things can be quite epic and grandiose:

"Monster Hunter 4" was revealed some time ago, but at the moment, it's only for the Japanese audience. But the thing is, there are fans of the franchise here in America, as well as other parts of the world. Who are all frustrated and worried about the completely lack of chatter as it pertains to an international release.

Unfortunately, such a move is somewhat understandable, given that Monster Hunter has never really caught outside of its homeland, despite numerous Western releases and various efforts to drum up excitement.

Monster Hunter's popularity is so strong that many credit it for being the primary reason why the PSP did so well in Japan. Which is another thing that didn't exactly catch on here in the States.

Various installments have made it out here, on hardware that actually has done well, but the finer details have never matched up. Then again, it?s hard to imagine the Wii version doing that well, though it difficult to find info pertaining to how popular online gaming for that system is in the East.

There is some fear that Capcom might have officially given up on Monster Hunter in the West. Let's hope that they at least give part 4 one last shot.

Glencore, JPM sued in U.S. as warehousing legal battle ramps up

By Melanie Burton

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Glencore Xstrata and JPMorgan Chase & Co face a U.S. lawsuit, along with the London Metal Exchange, alleging they artificially inflated aluminum prices, in the second legal challenge related to metal warehousing in a week.

The suit, which also names Goldman Sachs and subsidiaries of both Goldman and JP Morgan, accuses the firms of engaging in anti-trust and racketeering practices.

The latest case, filed by Florida-based aluminum user Master Screens and an individual plaintiff, expands the geography and number of companies being sued in the unfolding legal battle over warehousing.

Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan dismissed the suit.

"We believe this suit is without merit and we intend to vigorously contest it. We also note that aluminum prices are down 40 percent from their peak in 2006," a Goldman Sachs spokesman said.

"There are no queues at our warehouses. We believe this suit has no merit," a JPMorgan spokesman said.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited , owner of the LME, declined to comment.

Glencore could not immediately be reached for comment.

U.S. regulators are scrutinizing ownership of commodity storage facilities by major U.S. banks.

Last week, Goldman and the LME were named as defendants in a separate Detroit lawsuit.

The Florida lawsuit alleges "manipulation of the aluminum market through supply price fixing," among other practices.

The lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, which is seeking class action status and was filed on August 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, is Master Screens Inc. and Daniel Price Bart, described in the filing as "a purchaser of beverages sold in aluminum cans."

Introduction
Have you ever seen a "shooting star" race across the sky at night? Shooting stars are meteors zooming at high speed through Earth's atmosphere and burning up along the way from friction. And right now is one of the best times to see them in person. The Perseids, which are impressive meteor showers that happen each year from mid-July to late August, have their peak activity around August 11 to 14. They're caused by Earth traveling through debris from the Comet Swift-Tuttle. Luckily, most meteors are tiny and burn up before hitting the ground. But if a meteor doesn't disintegrate, what's its impact on Earth? In this activity you'll explore how a meteorite?s size is related to the size of the crater it makes on impact.

Background
Craters are round, bowl-shaped depressions surrounded by a ring. They're made when a meteoroid in space collides with a planet, moon or other astronomical body. ("Meteorite" is what a meteor is called if it does not burn up before it lands. When a meteor is in space, it is known as a ?meteoroid.?) Craters are what make our moon look like a ball of Swiss cheese. Each round hole is where a meteorite impacted the surface of the moon, so craters are often called "impact craters." Often, the meteorite that creates the crater explodes on impact, so only the crater is left as an empty reminder of the collision.

Moons and planets have been impacted by meteorites since the formation of our solar system. We see many craters on the moon because it doesn't have much of an atmosphere. An atmosphere (such as the one we have) often causes enough friction to make the falling rocks burn up. The moon, unlike Earth, also lacks weather and water features that eventually erode craters as well as tectonic activity to renew its surface. On Earth, however, there are only about 170 scientifically confirmed impact craters (others are thought to have existed but have been changed beyond recognition over time). And many of these confirmed craters are not obvious because they've been changed by geologic forces, eroded away, covered by sediment or are submerged underwater. Scientists have identified each crater by using several different kinds of clues, such as pieces of iron-rich meteorite or satellite imaging.

Materials
? Cardboard box, larger than a shoebox and fairly deep (Something like a small, movable box would be perfect.)
? About 10 pounds of flour
? Ruler
? Three different-size objects that are nearly spherical, such as a rubber bouncing ball, a baseball and a piece of roundish fruit (bigger than the baseball, such as a grapefruit). Smaller objects, such as marbles and beads, will not work well for this activity.
? Find a surface where the box is stable and you can comfortably drop the round objects from about two feet above the surface of the flour (once it is poured into the box). This workspace should also be easy to clean; some of the flour might end up on the surrounding surfaces.

Preparation
? Slowly pour flour into the cardboard box. Shift the box from side to side to evenly distribute the flour. It should be a depth of at least two inches in your box. If there's not enough flour, you can either transfer the flour to a smaller box or add another bag of flour.

Procedure
? Using a ruler, measure the diameter of one of your nearly spherical objects. These objects will serve as "meteorites" in this activity. What is the diameter of this object?
? Drop the meteorite from about two feet above the flour into flour by holding the object out at arm's length over the box and letting go. What happened when the meteorite hit the surface?
? Carefully remove the object from the flour?without disturbing the "crater" left behind. Then drop the same object into the flour box two more times, each time in a different spot in the box. Be sure to drop all of your meteorites the same way and from the same height.
? Now carefully measure the diameter of each of the three craters. (Do this by measuring the distance across the center of the depression in the flour.) What are the diameters of the craters? How do they compare with the diameter of the meteorite itself?
? Prepare your box for the next meteorite by shaking the box from side to side to even the flour until it is smooth and level.
? Measure the diameter of one of your other meteorites and drop it into the box of flour just as you did with the first meteorite. Drop it two more times to make three separate craters, as you did before (from the same height), and measure the diameter of each crater. What are the diameters of the craters? How do they compare with the diameter of the meteorite itself?
? Again prepare your box for the last meteorite by shaking the box from side to side to make the flour smooth and level.
? Measure the last meteorite's diameter and drop it into the flour box a total of three times, just as you did with the other two meteorites. Measure the diameter of these craters. What are the diameters of the craters? How do they compare with the diameter of the meteorite itself?
? What size craters did the smallest objects make? What size craters did the biggest ones make? In general, how do you think the diameter of a meteorite is related to the diameter of the crater it makes on impact?
? Extra: Do this activity again but this time pick only one of your "meteorites" and try dropping it from different heights. Does the height at which the meteorite is dropped affect the crater that forms?
? Extra: You could graph your results from this activity, plotting the average diameter of the crater on one axis and the diameter of the meteorite on the other axis. Do you notice any pattern between the size of the crater and the size of the meteorite, based on your graph?
? Extra: Repeat this activity using objects that are of similar sizes, but different in weight. How is a crater affected by the weight of the meteorite?

Fresh Corn Salsa Recipe + 2013 Summer of Fun - Texas Type A Mom

Somehow the summer of 2013 has come and is almost gone. ?Where has the time gone? ?Have things really been so busy that this entire summer has flown by and the first day of school is just around the corner?

Panama City Beach Sunset

To kick off summer, we made our annual pilgrimage to Panama City Beach, Florida. ?We spent two beautiful sun filled weeks swimming in the Gulf, fishing, playing in the sand, and enjoying this special time with family without the usual distractions of life at home. ?Our family looks forward to this vacation every year and this year was even more fun than last because the baby was able to walk around and start enjoying the sand and water too!

You have to stay cool in summer ? so we spent a lot of time in the water. ?We?re annual pass holders to Sea World and Aquatica in San Antonio, so June and July brought us lots of visits to the park. ?We?ve now seen each of the shows and ridden all of the kiddie rides. We purchased a paddle board this summer so have been spending time at the lake. ?And who can forget visits to the pool! ?My oldest daughter took swimming lessons and her ability has really improved over last year.

June and July each brought us visits from family and friends from out of state! ?In June, my husband?s parents visited for a few days. ?And in July, my girlfriend from college that I haven?t seen in six years visited with her new husband. ?We had so much fun showing them around Austin, entertaining and getting to spend time with our loved ones.

To me, sharing the love and showing hospitality always involves copious amounts of food! ?I want people to be happy and satisfied, so I always try to have their favorite foods as well as using the time to showcase new recipes.

A favorite recipe this summer was my Corn Salsa. ?This flavorful salsa is light, flavorful, and a fun alternative to traditional tomato based salsas. With the end of summer and corn season rapidly approaching, I?m doing anything possible to get my fill in before it?s out of season. ?Check out my recipe for corn salsa below!

New ABA chair has community bank background

DES MOINES, Iowa -- An Iowa community banker is set to take the reins of the American Bankers Association this October, as small-town business leaders assert themselves in a $13 trillion banking industry that was pushed to the precipice of financial disaster in 2008 by the nation's largest financial institutions.

Jeff Plagge, who turns 59 on Monday, is the ABA's incoming chairman. The president and chief executive of Northwest Financial Corp. in Arnolds Park will succeed Matthew Williams of Gothenburg State Bank in Gothenburg, Neb., at the annual convention in New Orleans, Oct. 20-22.

Apple developers? data at risk after security breach

The iPhone and iPad maker said hackers managed to get into the site developers have been using as Apple trials its new operating system, iOS 7, which is set to launch in the autumn.

?We have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers? names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed,? said Apple, although it insisted ?sensitive personal information was encrypted and cannot be accessed?.

Apple added: ?To prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we?re completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database.? This is the latest blow to chief executive Tim Cook, who has seen Apple?s market value slump 30% in a year following lacklustre sales for iPhone5 and the botched launch of a map app.

Cook unveils quarterly results tomorrow when investors will be eager to know about new devices.

Armed Robbery Outside Of The Morehouse College Campus

eaves

Fulton County Commission Chairman John Henry Eaves posted a sobering note on Facebook tonight that I wanted to share.

I began my day with joy as I dropped off my son on his first day as a freshman at Morehouse College. I have ended my day bewildered as I just learned my son was robbed at gunpoint on the periphery of the Morehouse campus this evening by two thugs who stole his cell phone. Thank God my son, though shaken, is alive and suffered no physical harm according to AJC.

Right now I am experiencing a wide range of emotions?I am relieved and thankful that my first born is still with me, but I am also angry, pissed, and concerned. I am not very optimistic about the future of our community, especially when you look at the status of African-American males. Too many African-American boys have access to guns, too many of them drop out of high school, too many of them are in prison, and too many of them place little value on the lives of others.

I hope we will begin to change the dialogue of what OTHERS are doing to us and our communities, but we must focus on what WE can do to change the pathological self-destructive behavior that is occurring within OUR own communities.

One thing that all urban campuses have to do is make their students and their parents feel safe. I am sure Morehouse is sickened that a freshman was held up on his first day. Expect to hear more about this story.
